Grapevine Breaks Record!03 September 2010
On the Thursday before Grapevine the stock levels at Foodbank had reached a critical point and we were no longer able to provide food for the people who came to us for help.
Over the Grapevine weekend we collected approximately 675kg of food for Foodbank, Amigos and other Acts projects. This surpasses our previous record collection by nearly 50 kg, which was collected last Christmas outside Tesco.
Foodbank would like to offer a massive thank you to everyone at Grapevine who donated food. The whole team was overwhelmed at how everyone was so cheerful and willing to help! Special thanks go out to; the Mini Mart for giving their leftover goods; the Energize team and everyone else who helped by going round the camp collecting food; Grapevine radio for allowing us to repeatedly publicise the collection; all the venues who plugged the collection, and last but not least Groundlevel for allowing us to collect at the celebration.
We would also like to emphasise how important it is to keep supporting us so we can help those who are in crisis! The scale of the collection at Grapevine was amazing but the number of people in crisis/poverty is similarly astonishing. Indicated by the fact that the Wednesday distribution after grapevine was also a record day and we have already given out nearly a third of the goods collected at Grapevine.
We collect food at the back of New Life on a Sunday and will very shortly have permanent green bins in both Morrisons and Tesco Express where people can deposit food.
If you would like to stand with us by giving an item of food a week or whatever you can afford, please e-mail Geoff Walker at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and we can regularly update you of our current shortage items.
With much Gratitude
The Foodbank Team
