Exciting Night Light Cafe – Updates
by Kerry Robinson – Lincoln NLC Coordinator & Michelle Russell – NLC Project Worker
The Night Light Cafe project is growing and expanding on a monthly basis. From a small seed of an idea, we now have over 25 cafes open across Lincolnshire! With more opening in the next few weeks!
We would love to share some exciting updates about our Lincoln Nightlight Cafe ……
We are extremely pleased to announce some exciting new cafes that will be opening very soon.
- Bishop Grosseteste (BGU) Student Night Light Cafe – this will be available to students and staff at the university during term time and we are currently sending a survey to ask the best time and day to ensure good attendance. The cafe will be run in partnership with Alive Lincoln North Church, who are based at the University for their Sunday services.
- Twilight Cafe – this will be opening at Bridge Church on Portland Street and available for young people under 18 years of age. This will not be a self-referral service, like our evening cafes for adults, but instead young people and their families will be invited by CAMHS. This will be the first to open in Lincoln as a pilot scheme and we are really excited to see how things will develop.
- Bracebridge Heath Sunday Cafe – this is one of our newer cafes open in Lincoln. Currently, it has been opening every other Sunday , however we are hoping to start opening the cafe every week in the very near future
The number of guests we have visiting our cafes on a weekly basis continues to increase as more people hear about our service and the support we can offer to people struggling with their mental health. Currently, attendances to our Lincoln cafes are on average 320 per month and we are seeing an average of approximately 30 new guests per month.
We continue to promote our cafes at local events, doctors surgeries and recently we were able to have a leaflet included in prescriptions at some local Co-op Pharmacies. Social media also plays a big part in our promotions. We have our Facebook and Instagram pages – @nightlightcafelincoln which has new information every week.
We feel these are exciting times of growth for Night Light Cafes and we are committed to helping improve the mental health of local people by providing this safe space.
The Night Light Café is open to all, everyone is welcome. To access this service, or to refer someone for support from Night Light, please call 0300 011 1200 or email nightlight@actstrust.org.uk.
