ABOUT US
OUR VISION
Acts is an independent Christian charity based in Lincoln with 20 years of experience working with local churches and charities to provide holistic support for those facing poverty and crisis.
Launched in 2006 by Lincoln’s Alive Church, we inspire and enable local churches and charities to run outreach initiatives. Our work is inspired by our Christian faith and is focused on ending poverty and restoring vital relationships so that all people can experience flourishing lives within thriving communities.
Our Vision: Empowered People Living in Thriving Communities
We envision a future where both people and communities are free from poverty in all its forms.
In this future, people are empowered from within to overcome challenges and lead fulfilling lives. Churches express God’s love by actively transforming their communities into thriving, supportive spaces where people gather to provide for one another and care for their surroundings.
OUR MISSION
Our Mission: Empowering People to End Poverty
Empowerment provides the foundation for people to take control of their lives and move beyond poverty.
The journey towards empowerment isn’t linear, and every path is personal. Our mission is to share this journey together, honouring each unique story with empathy and deep understanding.
-
Our Missional Objectives:
-
─ Inspire and equip
local churches, charities, organisations and grassroots groups for anti-poverty outreach.
-
─ Champion and facilitate
essential poverty alleviation work.
-
─ Holistic Integration
of alleviation and restoration work through empowerment and early intervention.
Volunteers are our foundational team members, empowered in their personal contribution to the fight against poverty. The vast majority of volunteers are mobilised and supported through our partnerships with local churches and other partner organisations.
Acts employs a dedicated staff team whose primary role is to coordinate anti-poverty activities and projects. This team delivers specialist roles and services, and is responsible for supporting, training and championing volunteers in their transformative work on the front line. Each project area has dedicated staff, hired to manage capacity, so that individual team members do not have multiple project delivery focuses.
Our volunteers and staff are supported by a Senior Leadership Team, and the whole charity is accountable to a board of Trustees who ensure we operate legally and in line with our vision, mission and objectives

OUR CHRISTIAN FAITH
As a Christian charity, our work is rooted in faith; this spurs us on.
-
─ BROKEN RELATIONSHIPS
We believe poverty is the result of broken relationships with God, with others, ourselves and the earth, not just a lack of resources.
-
─ CALLING
We believe God calls us toward compassion, justice, and living well with each other so that our work brings healing to broken relationships.
-
─ PARTNERSHIP
We believe in the power of partnership, modelled by the way Jesus joined God with humanity. Following His example, we are coworkers with God to restore communities and relieve suffering, while uniting with others to share in this transformational work.
-
─ CHURCH
We believe the local church is part of God’s plan for building thriving communities. We encourage churches to create welcoming, non-judgmental places where everyone, regardless of their background, can find a sense of belonging.
-
─ PRAYER
We believe in the importance of prayer. We ground our work in a spirit of humility, praying for our team, our partners, and the specific needs of the communities we serve.
-
─ PERSONAL CHOICE
We believe faith is a personal choice. While our church partners and we are open about our Christian identity, we respect every person’s freedom to hold and express their own beliefs. Our support is strictly unconditional and non-transactional. Help is provided solely based on need, with no requirement to engage in church activities or hold specific beliefs to access our support.
