An interview with Katie, a Community Grocery Volunteer
By Alanna Chandar-Nair
Jubilee Week at the Grocery was busy! With our Jubilee cafe running all of last week we were chatting to the people of Lincoln ahead of an exciting bank holiday. I sat down with one of our Community Grocery volunteers Katie to chat all things Grocery and how our team of volunteers make such an important difference to the local community!
Tell me a little bit about yourself…
My name is Katie and I have worked with the Community Grocery in Lincoln for 7 months. I am 27, and have moved to England temporarily from America.
Where did you hear about the Community Grocery?
I heard about the CG from the church, Alive Lincoln South.
What would you say to anyone who is nervous to sign up to the community grocery?
I would tell them the tasks we do throughout the day are easy to learn and the people they will work with are so kind and welcoming.
What is your favourite part of volunteering with the grocery?
My favourite part of working at the grocery is the community we are able to serve. We are helping so many people with their weekly shops and helping to feed families and individuals who may be struggling.
What is your favourite meal to make?
My favourite meal to make is anything with pasta.
What’s been your biggest challenge whilst volunteering with the Grocery?
The biggest challenge I have faced while working with the Grocery is trying to learn about all the resources that are available for people who are in serious need. There are so many organisations that help people with so many varying needs, it can be difficult to remember all of them.
If someone was thinking of joining our volunteer team, what would you say to them?
Definitely come and join! We are always needing volunteers who are willing to help their community with a friendly face.
Lincoln Community Grocery is open for the people of Lincoln helping to keep families fed and give members access to support too.
