Why it is so important to remember your ‘why’?
How quickly time flies! We are nearing the end of school term 1 already. The start of a new academic year always brings about a fresh sense of reset and resilience to start the year off well. It might be that you have another go at your 2024 new years resolution – a final attempt to finally start going to the gym or start a new project or hobby. As the days grow shorter and the weather starts to turn dark, cold and wet it can be easy for this fresh resilience to wither away quickly. That’s why it is so important to remember your why. Why you do what you do and why you want to achieve a certain goal.

For our youth team, the start of a new year is particularly important as we plan the year ahead. How do we want to connect with our young people this year? What events and trips would best benefit them? How can we build on last year to make our program this year even better? We always get so excited dreaming about these things. The young people of this city are so important to us. They are our next generation and it is our mission to support them to be resilient, to be focused and to dream about all the possibilities! Bringing this first term to a close, we are beyond excited for the rest of the year. We also had a brilliant time with the young people in the north of our city over October half term. We always have such a great time connecting with young people in the holiday, taking them on great tips and making memories. We’ve already done many mentoring sessions in school, helping young people overcome their barriers to success, work on themselves and helping them set goals for the year ahead. We’ve also done a handful of Friday night sessions creating a space for young people to feel safe, connect with each other and be curious about all of life’s questions. It’s in the midst of all the fun, laughter, catch ups and hot chocolates that we remember why we do what we do – young people are awesome and we love championing them!
