Butterflies Receives Vital Funding to Support Women in Lincoln

Butterflies, a welcoming community group for women run from Alive Church Lincoln Central, has been awarded £681 through Lincolnshire Co-op’s Community Champions scheme.

This much-needed funding will help the group purchase new arts and crafts materials and equipment, enabling it to continue offering a safe, creative space where women can relax, build friendships, and find support.

Running weekly, Butterflies provides a warm and inclusive environment for women—many of whom have experienced isolation or face mental health challenges—to connect, express themselves, and simply unwind with crafts and cake.

The grant is part of an impressive £209,051.99 raised for 262 local groups across the region between September 2024 and March 2025, all thanks to the generosity of Lincolnshire Co-op members, customers, and staff.

PraiseGod Omoregie, Communities Worker at Alive Church, said:

“Butterflies, like most of our projects, provides its services free of charge to our guests. We’re so grateful for the kindness and commitment of Lincolnshire Co-op’s members and team. This funding means we can do even more for the community we love and serve.”

The Community Champions scheme allows members to support causes every time they shop, with donations made through dividend card scans, colleague fundraising events, and even spare change from customers.

Sam Turner, Community Manager at Lincolnshire Co-op, added:

“It’s always inspiring to visit our Community Champions and see first-hand the impact this funding has. Thanks to the efforts of our colleagues and customers, these groups can continue spreading positivity and changing lives in their communities.”
