Thursday is a busy day for Lincoln Foodbank. The Foodbank drivers are collecting donations from different locations across the city, they are also delivering Food parcels to our Distribution Centres. We have many Distribution Centres open giving out food parcels. Dial-a-Ride are out in the afternoons delivering food parcels to those isolating and it’s also a busy day at the Warehouse for the Thursday Warehouse Team.
The Thursday team is in the Foodbank warehouse every Thursday without fail, come rain or shine and even throughout lockdown, serving the community. During winter the warehouse isn’t the warmest place to be but they never miss a week. At the warehouse the team are weighing in donations from supermarkets, schools, businesses etc. It’s quite a workout volunteering for Foodbank, I have seen Liz carry many parcels at one time.
Liz, Mary, Colin, Chris, John, Ajanta are our great Thursday team. I had a little catch up with them;
How long have you been volunteering with Lincoln Foodbank?
Liz – 12 years
Mary – 3 years
Ajanta – 1 year
Chris – 6 years
John – 2 years
Colin – 5 years
What is the best thing about being part of the team?
All of the team said ‘each other’s company and friendship’.
What is the most out of date donation we’ve had?
Mushroom Soup from 1997 (what?!?!)
Mary also shared how once there was a packet of open bacon, out of date by 6 months. Yummy
Do any of you have a story you would like to share from your time volunteering?
Mary shared how many donations come from local retirement homes who want to help those who aren’t as comfortable and supported as they are.
We are so grateful for the time, compassion and commitment that all of our team members display. I have said it before and will say it again, Lincoln Foodbank wouldn’t happen without our brilliant army of volunteers. Thank you team!
