New places: New Faces
The cafe has been operating part time for a few weeks, with Grocery volunteers serving up drinks and friendly conversation, and learning how the ‘regulars’ enjoy their tea. With the increase in opening hours, there will also be Cafe Pastors on site. These are people who are available to talk through any issues or to pray with anyone who needs it.
On Thursdays, the cafe will host courses open to the community, so there is always a reason to pop in and a place where you are welcomed. Courses will include CAP job club, CAP money management, Life:Ready and the WRAP course, and we are thinking about an Art course too, and maybe a cooking course! Keep an eye out in the Grocery for information about what is coming soon.
The courses are part of the Restore Programme, which offers practical help and skills to anyone who wants it. Acts have recently welcomed Joy Velykorodnyy to the team as the Restore Programme Coordinator, releasing B to be full time Operations Manager.
Joy is Lincoln born and bred, but has recently moved back to the city after many years living in exotic locations such as Kyiv, St Petersburg, Barton upon Humber, and most recently, Motherwell. She brings a wealth of skills as well as delicious banana bread and an annoying propensity to sing loudly when she thinks she is alone. Joy is eager to work with the Grocery, Foodbanks and Night Light Cafes to bring the Restore programme to the communities where they serve. If you think the Restore course would be useful to the people you work with, email her on joy.vel@actstrust.org.uk
