Interview with a Foodbank Guest
With the cost of living continually increasing, many people are having to choose between heating and eating. This shouldn’t be the case but for many people it is. I had a chat with one of our Foodbank guests to find out how Foodbank has helped them.
Tell me a little about yourself;
I am single and I live on my own in the centre of the city. I have three children but they are all grown up and have left home now so it’s just me.
Recently, you have had a Food parcel, can you tell me a little bit about that;
I needed a food parcel as I only had 10p left and still had 6 days until I was got paid. I also had no electric and had been in the dark for 2 days before I rang and asked for help for a food parcel. The lady on the phone was helpful and when I went to collect the parcel, the people there were really nice too. The ladies there even got a voucher for the Co-op so I could get some electricity. They even told me about the Household Support Fund, which I got and that had helped me so much.
What would you say to anyone who needs a food parcel but is nervous about asking?
Just call the Foodbank. All the people I have talked and met have just wanted to help me and they also made me a cup of tea while I waited for my parcel too. It has made me realise how many people want to help and are kind.
