What Would Make You Jump Out of an Airplane?
By Simon Hoare – CEO of Acts Trust
This year Acts is 15 years old. I remember joining the small team that year in my mid-20’s; we were full of ideas about how we could change the City of Lincoln for good and Make a Difference.
With a bunch of enthusiastic volunteers from the Alive Church community (back then called New Life Church) we got our teeth into some great projects, many of which are still running today (including Energize and an early version of Lincoln Foodbank called ‘Contact’).
Over time, we realised we didn’t really have much an idea of what we were doing, but 15 years is a long time to learn and we’ve developed a great ethos and approach to living in and serving your community and empowering the people within.
More than ever, we are really grateful to everyone who has joined or supported our team of staff and volunteers and got behind this ethos and approach.
Yet more than ever we need to raise greatly needed funds to enable our work to continue.
This last year we gave out over 6,000 parcels of emergency food to people experiencing food poverty in Lincoln.
This kind of thing doesn’t happen without generous people contributing what they can spare for the good of the wider community.
Which has led me to jumping out of an Airplane.
On 6th August 2021, Bethan Lloyd, Cat Middleton and I are taking part in a Skydive at RAF Scampton to raise money for Lincoln Foodbank.
Having spent most of lockdown in my comfortable home office watching the Red Arrows practising outside of my window most Fridays, it seems fitting to get up and do something more adventurous to try and bring in some much needed funds for the year ahead.
